Position – Shop Supervisor

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The successful applicant will be responsible for managing projects of varying scales with several moving parts. They will manage the full scope of the project and work closely with our field operations team. Responsibilities will include managing the project startup, efficient scheduling and management of resources (crews, equipment, & subcontractors), regular communication of project status to the project team and the client. The candidate must be able to maintain positive relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients and most importantly provide strong leadership.

Other project responsibilities will include reviewing project performance, completing daily progress and cost tracking, and being responsible for the efficient and effective progression of the project. This role will also work closely with administrative staff to complete invoicing and collection of outstanding receivables.

Position Description:

In this fast-paced environment where priorities change frequently, the successful applicant will oversee all shop staff activities and ensure safe delivery of orderly, high quality, timely repair service work. The candidate must be able to maintain positive relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and coworkers and most importantly provide strong leadership. The ideal candidate must be willing to work a flexible schedule with a variety of shifts to accommodate service needs. They will be career minded and looking for long term employment within this team orientated company.

This role is based in Calgary and reports to the Vice President.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide daily direction to all shop employees by outlining work activities, priorities and scheduling
  • Procure all parts and supplies necessary to complete all work
  • Be a resource to shop personnel for technical input, trouble shooting and repair techniques
  • Procure and manage parts utilization within budgets established by Vice President
  • Oversee all work and keeping techs on task to ensure high productivity and quality workmanship
  • Oversee all facility maintenance/repairs to ensure optimum efficiency
  • Responsible for approving timesheets for shop employees
  • Responsible for closing work orders once all information is documented
  • Participate in employee interviews, establish and implement new employee orientations and training
  • Provide informal performance evaluation feedback highlighting accomplishments/growth and areas requiring improvement on a day to day basis
  • Conduct shop safety orientation/training/monitoring for all staff and be responsible for building a “safety culture”
  • Help keep shop and yard clean and organized
  • Coordinate contractors who are providing overhaul or service work for shop projects
  • Identify employee training requirements and initiate training programs to increase productivity and competency
  • Recommend employee termination to Vice President; participate in termination process with Vice President
  • Recommend employee wage increments (based on employee work performance) to Vice President prior to discussing with employee
    • Make up work orders as needed
  • Final inspection sheets to be signed off on before equipment leaves the yard
  • Help with the management of the tool crib (ie. arrange for repair of broken tools)
  • Available to work extra hours as required
  • Build and promote Kidco’s philosophy and teamwork environment with all employees
  • Responsible for 3 month reviews of new techs
  • Responsible for yearly reviews of techs
  • Description may change from time to time

Safety responsibilities:

  •  Responsible for weekly safety meetings
  • Ensure that all safe job procedures and practices are followed as per Kidco Construction policies
  • Report all incidents and near misses immediately
  • Ensure that shop inspections are completed on a monthly basis
  • Ensure annual crane inspections are completed with cost quotes prior to work being done
  • Ensure crane inspections are completed daily for the cranes that are being used
  • Ensure daily forklift pre-inspections are done

Requested skills and experience:

  • Fluent in English – both written and oral
  • 8+ years’ experience in mechanics
  • Previous shop management experience of 5+ years
  • Heavy Duty Mechanic’s Ticket with Red Seal
  • Valid Driver’s License, preferably Class 3
  • Computer skills
  • Air Ticket an asset
  • CVIP Ticket an asset
  • Have own hand tools
